Some individuals are born leaders, while some have to work for it. Still, everyone in a leadership position has a responsibility to give back to their team, their company, and their community at large. Not only does this solidify their standing in the organization, but it also creates a positive culture and reaps benefits for the organization.

Many leaders get there by working beyond their job description in a company. Someone with leadership qualities will often volunteer for extra assignments, professional development opportunities, and certifications. They go out of their way to build positive relationships with everyone they encounter to develop their network. Essentially, they do not stop at the minimum required amount of work to show their value, passion, and ability in their field.

Relationships are undeniably one of the most important aspects of a leader’s personal growth and success. A great leader knows that they cannot grow a successful organization alone. They rely on their team because a strong team will yield better outcomes. Leaders give. They fill the cup of their teammates by offering support, encouragement, constructive feedback, time, and grace when they have had a bad day. A leader knows that their team’s well-being can make or break a project and has an impact on morale.

Many organizations have a social responsibility plan. The organization’s leaders should set this in a thoughtful way that aligns with the organization’s values. Organizations will often ask their members to volunteer for an organization and participate in this plan. Influential leaders lead by example. They don’t ask their team to do something that they wouldn’t do. Using their strengths, talents, and even company products or services to give back to the community shows teammates that their participation is valued and important. Giving back to the community has many rewards, including a rewarding feeling for the individual, a healthier community, team morale. It can improve the standing of the organization within and even outside of that community. If an organization doesn’t have a specific policy or plan for community outreach, it’s a great leader who will pave the way.
